Last Ad Free Skype version

*UPDATE*
If you want to use latest Skype version just add following line to hosts file (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc):

127.0.0.1 rad.msn.com
127.0.0.1 live.rads.msn.com
127.0.0.1 ads1.msn.com
127.0.0.1 static.2mdn.net
127.0.0.1 g.msn.com
127.0.0.1 a.ads2.msads.net
127.0.0.1 b.ads2.msads.net
127.0.0.1 ac3.msn.com

Today I received a Skype update that started to show advertisements in chat windows.
This was unacceptable for me, so I decided to downgrade Skype to latest ad-free version, which seems to be 6.9.0.106.

You can download old Skype version without ads from here:

To prevent Skype from updating automatically go to:

Tools -> Options… -> Advanced -> Automatic updates and click “Turn off automatic updates’.

  1. Thanks for posting this link – I agree it’s unacceptable that Skype decided to force spam adverts on us. Who the hell do they think they are?

      • That would be true if skype stays ad free. Anyway, they can do whatever they want and in opposite we can use whatever version we wish, which means most people will revert to this one and turn off updates. Looks like multi-million failure.

  2. Old Software rocks I agree, but follow this and keep up with the times, as most legacy software will be crippled by Windows 8.1 and 9 coming soon in 2015.

Get the most current version. Go to your Internet Explorer and choose Internet options> Security> Restricted Sites and add https://skype.com – click ok. If you get debug errors is mostly likely you’re using version IE 6 like me, as I never use that browser.

Go back to Skype and click the home icon and then back to a chat and the ads are gone.

That’s it – you’re Skype is Ad free!! Problems? Just ask here

    Enjoy!
